Coming up first from the multiple releases planned is Shivam Nair's suspense thriller 'Maharathi' based on Paresh Rawal's popular Gujarati play and featuring Naseeruddin Shah, Om Puri, Boman Iraani, Paresh Rawal, Tara Sharma and Neha Dhupia. This will be followed by 'Kidnap' by Sanjay Gadhvi, an action thriller which will feature Sanjay Dutt, Minnisha Lamba, Vidya Malvade, Rahul Dev & Imran Khan in a fast paced adventure. Not just this, Neeraj Vora will be once again directing another laughathon titled 'One Way Ticket' starring Anil Kapoor, Akshaye Khanna & two more Heroines Coming to one of the most exciting projects already creating a buzz from Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision Ltd is 'Blue', a magnanimous action film with the boasting of high profile stars like Sanjay Dutt, Akshay Kumar, Lara Dutta, Katrina Kaif and Zayed Khan in the hands of Director Anthony D'Souza!! 'Aye Paapi' gets rocking for Shahid

The Prince Charming of Bollywood, Shahid Kapoor's dance track 'Aye Paapi' (Tu hai meri soniye) in Kismat Konnection is rocking the charts and has become the anthem of the youth. If 'Pappu can't dance' was the chart buster last week, 'Aye Paapi' is the flavor of the youth this week. The young superstar is the only actor who has delivered back to back solo hits like VIVAAH and the cult classic JAB WE MET, is all set for a hat trick of solo hits, if the reports of Kismat Konnection in the trade are any indication. Apart from the rocking dance steps choreographed by Ahmed Khan, designer Shabinaa Khan has designed the outfits for Shahid Kapoor for the chart busting track. Says Shabinaa Khan, "The brief given required Shahid Kapoor to be dressed as a young, hip youth icon, but different and not in your face clothes. I was very clear that the outfit would not be the typically 'Filmy-night disco outfit' but very casual. Keeping that in mind, we designed his look for the song that would incorporate a shirt with a waist coat, and T-shirts and black canvas shoes. And it suited Shahid's personality to the T." No doubt with his silken moves on the dance floor, Shahid rocks big time!!

Nikita's BOND connection

Do you remember Daniel Craig's heroine Eva Green in the James Bond blockbuster 'Casino Royale' last year. Eva played the hot and sexy banker. Bond falls for her intelligence and intellectuality, while she ends up betraying his trust. Now, ex-Miss India Nikita Anand (of 'Dil Dosti Etc' fame), will essay a similar character in her forthcoming Bollywood film 'Monopoly – The Game of Money' directed by Nileish Malhotra. Nikita's publicist Dale Bhagwagar recently admitted her character is "on similar lines, and just like the Bond film, has a grey shade too." Asked whether it has been directly inspired by Eva Green's character of 'Casino Royale', he said, "It seems to be! But then Nikita is hot, sexy, intelligent and intellectual in real life too. So it's difficult to say if its art imitating real life or whether Nikita is playing herself." 'Monopoly – The Game of Money' has been shot in Kuala Lumpur and Langkawi Island in Malaysia, and stars Vinod Khanna's nephew Karan Khanna opposite Nikita.

Ugly Aur Pagli

UGLY AUR PAGLI is a bizarre and uncanny title. But catchy and attracts instant attention at the same time. It's for this reason that you expect UGLY AUR PAGLI to be one wacky ride, what with the film promising 99 slaps and 1 kiss.

Besides, post PYAAR KE SIDE EFFECTS, unconventional stories with unconventional casting only got an impetus. Since UGLY AUR PAGLI comes from the same production house that delivered P.K.S.E., you only expect the film to go a notch higher, or be at par, than the earlier experience. And that's where the film falls short of expectations.

Viewed as an individualistic experience, UGLY AUR PAGLI has a few interesting moments. Don't look for a story here, for it's the moments and incidents that bind this 2-hour film together. So what if the writers and director seem inspired by MY SASSY GIRL? Mallika Sherawat and Ranvir Shorey are enough to make you forget the waferthin plot at times.

Sure, a few scenes do bring a smile on your face, they are genuinely funny and bizarre [Mallika wearing undergarments above her clothes in the college], but there're times when the humour falls flat. You just don't react to the on-screen antics, you sit motionless while absorbing them [the futuristic stories that Mallika pens makes you break into a yawn!].

All said, had director Sachin Khot opted for a strong story and backed it up with strong emotions [in the latter part], UGLY AUR PAGLI would've made you exclaim 'Lovely'. As things stand now, UGLY AUR PAGLI is below par!

UGLY AUR PAGLI tells the story of Kabir [Ranvir Shorey], a carefree guy who has been studying engineering for the last five years and whose life goes for a sixer when he meets the quirky and kinky Kuhu [Mallika Sherawat].

Kabir always wanted a girlfriend, but never in his wildest dreams did he ever think he would encounter a girl who could make him dance around circles, ride cycles without seats, wear high heeled ladies sandals…

10 minutes into the film and you realize that UGLY AUR PAGLI is not the usual prem kahani. Yet, you take to the over-dominating, brash woman and the timid, docile and submissive guy. In fact, you break into a smile as you are introduced to these characters. But the smile surfaces only intermittently.

Nothing wrong with the first hour, but the second hour is problematic. Problem is, the absence of a story makes every moment look repetitive. What you've watched in the first hour is remodelled and represented in the second hour, with slight modifications of course.

Besides, the story is stretched in the second hour. Why does Mallika disappear suddenly [we're told she goes to Kolkata for two years]. Also, how does Gaurav Kapoor, the prospective groom, know Ranvir Shorey? Gaurav blurts out 10 ways to win Mallika in his first meeting itself. But the question is, why would Ranvir guide Gaurav when he's himself hopelessly in love with Mallika and has been searching for her whereabouts desperately? Clearly, the writers just didn't know how to conclude this saga!

Debutante Sachin Khot is letdown, to a major extent, by a slipshod and sloppy script. Music [Anu Malik] is another sore point. Besides 'Talli' [well rendered by Mika, Anmol Malik and Hard Kaur] and to an extent, 'Karle Gunaah', the remaining songs should be given a skip.

UGLY AUR PAGLI belongs to both Mallika and Ranvir. The best thing about Mallika is, she's a complete natural. She's spunky and spirited and that's one of the reasons why this role works. And it works only because Mallika is portraying it. Doubt if any other actress would've carried off the devilish streak so well. Her emotional side is also well captured in the concluding moments.

Ranvir Shorey - an incredible actor indeed! To play a submissive part convincingly requires complete understanding of the craft and Ranvir proves, yet again, that he's one of the most dependable actors around. Again, the best thing about him is that he's not pretending to act. Tinnu Anand and Sushmita Mukherjee are hilarious in their first scene. Bharti Achrekar is alright. Zeenat Aman is hardly there for one scene.

On the whole, UGLY AUR PAGLI is, at best, an ordinary fare, but in the absence of a tight script, the film will face an uphill task in days to come.

SRK, Aziz Mirza and Juhi together again

One actor who is completely dependable is Shah Rukh Khan. The moment the superstar learnt that Aziz Mirza wanted him to do the voiceover for Tips Films Kismat Konnection, Khan, who had just returned from the UK, not only did he instantly met the director but also completed the dubbing in a matter of few hours.

"Shah Rukh is amazingly energetic," said Aziz Mirza. He added, "He had just returned from London. Any actor in his place would have made an excuse of jetlag and said 'I want to go home', but not Shah Rukh! His car took the road that led to the dubbing studio. That too at 1.30 in the night. He saw to it that he completes the voice over for my film that very night."

Interestingly it was Juhi who was to do the voice over initially. Aziz Mirza said, "Juhi plays a crystal ball reader in my film and since her character talks about life and relationships I thought she was apt to do the voiceover for the film. But Juhi felt that the content of my film was too strong and female's voice in the background would not be able to do justice to it."

Aziz Mirza said with Shah Rukh now having lent his voice to the film, the circle was complete. "I am glad that Shah Rukh is a part of my film. I can always depend on him. When I told him about the voice over he immediately agreed. Shah Rukh did not question me even once about it."
